Introduction

The FFGS website offers site art. Instead of stock photography we feature sustainability related photography and other forms of visual art. The images of one artist are presented in the main sections of the site. Information about the images is available by clicking the icon on the lower right-hand corner.

Artists change periodically. The work of those artists featured in the past continues to be presented in this section.

Complementary to the written information provided, this allows for a different look at, and a more emotional approach to sustainability. Our objective is to:

  • Raise awareness on the topic of sustainable development
  • Promote artists working in this field.

Culture and art are relevant to sustainable development in its social dimension. The General Conference of UNESCO asserts in its Universal Declaration on Cultural Diversity that '…cultural diversity is as necessary for humankind as biodiversity for nature (UNESCO, 2001)'. As with biodiversity, cultural diversity carries valuable knowledge from present to future generations and is a source of innovation and creativity. It is the common heritage of humanity. On the individual level, cultural diversity widens the range of options to everyone and therefore allows more satisfactory lives.
